Building something great—together

ORAM is a large Mirabel-based mechanical contractor. We’re a leader in our industry, serving the multifamily residential, commercial, and light industrial sectors in Greater Montreal, including both the North and South Shores.

We provide and install all the materials, equipment, and fixtures for every project we work on. We work in the private sector and in a variety of ways to suit our clients’ needs, including traditional plan and specification projects, as well as design-assist and design-build projects. We also offer contract maintenance and emergency services on projects we’ve completed.

We’ve been working with developers, builders, and operators for more than 50 years, earning the ORAM brand recognition as a mark of strength and reliability.

Our mission

We aim to create value and make a difference in mechanical contracting by offering turnkey support and peerless customer service.

Achieving excellence through balance

Achieving excellence means continuously striking a balance between creativity, passion, and discipline—the three keys that have allowed us to create and grow a resilient business. Balance is also what drives us to treat everyone with respect. At ORAM, we believe everyone is worthy of trust and deserves honest and equal treatment, especially our team members and partners.

Our team’s commitment to our culture ensures our clients receive an experience that reflects our regard for our relationships and the passion that drives us, which we’ve come to call the ORAM Experience.

ORAM: More than a name

In 2012, we decided we needed to change our name from Baliscus to ORAM after restructuring the company to specialize in commercial plumbing.

We naturally gravitated toward the letter “O”—not just because it’s shaped like a pipe and sounds like the French word for water (eau)—but also because of what it represents. As the most organic letter in the alphabet, “O” suggests fluidity, flexibility, and adaptability. It evokes our 360° Approach, a confluence of strengths, and this idea perfectly reflects our former director’s vision at that time.

“Ram” comes from the Danish word ramme, which means “frame,” and the English word ram, which evokes the ideas of strength and movement, reminding us of the power of water and of the company itself.

The name ORAM still perfectly reflects the essence of who we are today: a firmly rooted foundation that helps us put our best foot forward and offer optimal, effective, and innovative solutions to our clients.

An unwavering culture of excellence for more than 50 years

1970

Jean-Paul Allaire opens Centre de plomberie Saint-Jérôme.

2004

Centre de plomberie Saint-Jérôme becomes Baliscus, L’espace eau et plomberie, which has the largest plumbing showroom in Québec.

2008

Sylvain Allaire, the founder’s son and a savvy businessman, becomes the sole owner of Baliscus, a leader in retail sales of plumbing and bathroom fixtures and accessories. Sylvain creates a plumbing installation division that becomes incredibly successful and quickly accounts for two thirds of the company’s revenue.

2012-2013

Sylvain agrees to sell Baliscus’s retail business and brand to Groupe Deschênes. After the sale, he renames his business ORAM Plomberie du bâtiment and moves to a new facility in Mirabel. His former estimators, project managers, and some 100 highly skilled plumbers join him at ORAM after the restructuring.

2016-2019

Having directed the new business since 2013, Sylvain starts planning to pass the torch. In September 2017, he names Olivier Mongrain Vice President of Construction, and Marie-Claude Allaire Vice President of Finance. Thanks to an innovative vision for the future and wise management decisions, ORAM Plomberie du bâtiment grows significantly, from 100 employees in 2015 to more than 230 by the end of 2019.

February 2020

Olivier and Marie-Claude take the reins as ORAM’s co-CEOs. They are determined to continue growing ORAM by not only working to expand their team and integrate innovative technology, but also focusing on their people—the true source of ORAM’s success.

2021

ORAM, which now has more than 300 employees, is named one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies. Management decides the time is ripe to refresh ORAM’s logo and rebrand the company as ORAM Mécanique du bâtiment.

Our team of builders

At ORAM, we’re a team that grows and adapts thanks to leaders who aren’t afraid to think outside the box. We make sure the right people are where they need to be to ensure our foundation is strong, but agile. We’ve created a place where every single person contributes to our success, helps us grow, and shares in our accomplishments.

Balance is also something that defines our leadership team, which together forms the foundation that allows us to deliver on our value proposition and helps our business grow and flourish long into the future.

ORAM’s co-presidents work tirelessly every day to take their business to new heights, leading a team of more than 300 employees, including 190 plumbers. They are inspired leaders and committed colleagues who live ORAM’s vision and values.
